Dr. Maria Velez joined clinique ovo in September 2025, after ten years as a clinician-scientist at Queen’s University in Ontario, where she built a strong clinical practice and a research program in fertility and reproductive health. During her time there, she held several leadership roles and received the Exceptional Healer Award in recognition of the quality of her care and her dedication to patients.
Since September 2024, Dr. Velez has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University and a clinician-scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. She completed her medical degree and residency in obstetrics and gynecology in Colombia, followed by a master’s degree in epidemiology in Brazil. She then moved to Montreal to pursue a PhD in Public Health/Epidemiology at Université de Montréal, and subsequently completed subspecialty training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Her clinical and research interests focus on women’s reproductive health across the life course, including infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, and obstetrical and perinatal outcomes. She leads large population-based cohort studies and collaborates with several national and international research networks, including the World Health Organization.
Author of more than 100 scientific publications, Dr. Velez has received multiple distinctions, including the CIHR Rising Star in Reproductive Health Research Award and the Clinician-Scientist Career Award from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé.
