Ultrasounds

An obstetrical ultrasound is an exam that is performed during the pregnancy to insure the proper growth and well-being of the fetus. These ultrasounds are ultimately performed for medical reasons and 2 dimension (2D) imagery is privileged. A portion of the exam can be performed in 3 dimension (3D) when the baby’s position permits it.

In some cases, the baby’s gender can be visualized however this will be dependant of the fetus’s gestational age and position.

An examination report will be sent to the prescribing doctor for all ultrasounds performed at clinique ovo. Please bring your prescription with you at your appointment. Patients having their ultrasounds performed at our offices located at 8000 boul. Décarie, Montreal, 3141 boul. Taschereau, Greenfield Park or 1000 Montée des Pioniers, Terrebone will receive a USB key with photos and possibly a short video sequence.

ovo prenatal’s ultrasound technicians are all certified by the FMF.

DATING ULTRASOUND

The dating ultrasound allows for the determination of the gestational age (number of weeks of pregnancy) with more precision than using the last menstrual period date. The dating ultrasound consists of taking growth measurements (crown-rump length and biparietal diameter) of the fetus as well as verifying the pregnancy’s progression. The examination is performed between the 7th and 9th week of gestation.

A prescription is required in order for us to perform this ultrasound.

1ST TRIMESTER ULTRASOUND

The first-trimester ultrasound is performed between 11.4 and 13.6 weeks of gestation. This ultrasound verifies the pregnancy’s progression, the fetal growth, the presence or absence of a nasal bone as well as the fetus’s nuchal translucency. The nuchal translucency is an important marker when screening for trisomies. The first-trimester ultrasound can be performed alone or combined with a maternal blood test as is the case in the optimo screening test. This ultrasound exam can also detect malformations which are not necessarily linked to trisomies.

2ND TRIMESTER ULTRASOUND

The second-trimester ultrasound is performed near the 20th week of gestation. This examination can observe the fetus’s development and morphology in greater detail. Many organs can be visualized during this ultrasound.

A prescription is required in order for us to perform this ultrasound.

3RD TRIMESTER ULTRASOUND

The third-trimester ultrasound is performed between 32 and 34 weeks of gestation. This examination is intended for the visualization of the baby’s position and his or her growth. Amniotic fluid levels and the placenta’s position are also verified.

A prescription is required in order for us to perform this ultrasound.
